What each one covers
| E-Math (G3, K310) | A-Math (G3, K341) | |
|---|---|---|
| Algebra | Numbers, ratio, percentage, rate and speed, algebraic expressions, functions and graphs, equations and inequalities, sets, matrices | Quadratic functions, equations and inequalities, surds, polynomials and partial fractions, binomial expansions, exponential and logarithmic functions |
| Geometry | Angles and polygons, congruence and similarity, circle properties, Pythagoras' theorem and trigonometry, mensuration, coordinate geometry, vectors | Trigonometric functions, identities and equations, coordinate geometry, proofs in plane geometry |
| Statistics and calculus | Data handling and analysis, probability | Differentiation and integration |
E-Math is mostly about using maths in context: money, rates, mensuration, statistics. A-Math is mostly algebra, with longer chains of working and more proofs. The SEAB A-Math syllabus says knowledge of G3 Mathematics is assumed.
Some topics overlap, such as quadratics, coordinate geometry and trigonometry, so the two subjects support each other.
